Mangalore, Aug 14: Under the joint auspices of the education department of Kundapur unit and Beary’s Seaside Public School, karate competition was held at regional-level in Beary’s Seaside Public school at Kodi here recently.

U S Shenoy, editor of Kundaprabha was the chief guest.

Inaugurating the competition he told the students that, Karate was an art of self-defence needed for one’s future eventualities.  

Hajji Master, president of the Beary’s group of educational institutes, called upon the students to participate in all cultural activities, especially the games and sports events of their schools.

Dr Prabhakar Shetty the director said that Karate was the sheet anchor of a sound mind in a strong body.

Dinaker Hegde, physical director, Flavia Rebello, principal, Bindu Harish, headmistress and Kiran, vice-president of Udupi Karate Association were present on the dais.

The function began with a prayer in chorus by girl students. Arathi the senior teacher welcomed the guests and Surendra Shetty, a teacher proposed the vote of thanks. D K Harish, the physical teacher compered the program. One hundred and twenty athletes from different schools had participated in the Karate competition.
