Rahul Gandhi breaks silence on allegations, challenges PM Modi

New Delhi, Nov 19 (NDTV): Breaking his silence today on the many allegations against him, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to investigate the charges against him and prove them.

"The BJP and RSS people have been flinging allegations at my family forever, on my grandmother, my father and my mother. I have been seeing this since I was a child," Mr Gandhi said at a function to mark the 98th birth anniversary of former prime minister Indira Gandhi.

"I want to say this, Modiji it's your government, you have all the agencies. Set them after me. Launch an investigation me and if find anything in six months put me in jail... but stop using your lackeys to dump dirt on my family," he said.

Earlier this week, BJP's Subramanium Swamy had released documents which purportedly showed that Mr Gandhi had claimed himself to be a British national before the company law authorities in the United Kingdom for setting up a company.

Demanding that Mr Gandhi be stripped of Indian citizenship and Lok Sabha membership, Mr Swamy has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

Within minutes, the BJP hit back, reiterating its charges against the Congress regarding the various scams and irregularities.

"They should not challenge us," said senior BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain. "Manmohan Singh gave direction to the economy towards 2G, Coalgate and CWG scam. Robert Vadra has many investigations going on against him."

Regarding the dig at RSS, the BJP's ideological mentor, Mr Hussain said, "If the shadow of RSS had fallen on Rahul Gandhi, he would have felt proud. Nehruji, Rajivji knew all about RSS because it had exposed their faults... Rahul Gandhi should read about their work."
