Mangalore, Aug 15: The demand for getting a differential tariff of the power consumers under Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) Ltd which was pending for a long time, will now become a reality from 2008, revealed K P Pandey chairman of Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Pandey was speaking here to the reporters on Tuesday August 14, after the conclusion of the two-day public hearing on revision of power tariffs held at deputy commissioners’ office.

Mescom will have different tariff system, Pandey informed and also clarified that it will be different tariff from all other electricity supply companies (Escoms). 

Pandey further informed that although earlier there was opposition to the tariff apart from the demands. However, this year the said tariff went totally unopposed. 

Meanwhile all consumers including farmers expressed their opposition towards the proposal of increasing power tariff by 90 paise per unit. The final orders will be announced by the KERC after completing public hearings in all other Escoms by September 20.

Those who do not follow the commission’s orders including the companies, the directors and board of directors will be charged, confirmed Pandey.
