Mangaluru: TV reporter accused in wife's murder acquitted

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Nov 20: More than two years after he was arrested, Gangadhar Padubidri, who was working as a reporter for Doordarshan (DD), has been acquitted of the charge of killing his wife.

Gangadhar had been arrested after his wife Mamatha Shetty (32) was found murdered at his sister's house at Kodikal on July 15, 2013.

On Thursday November 19, the first additional district and sessions court absolved him of all charges.

Urwa police who had registered the case had filed the charge sheet in the court. The defence counsel argued that the prosecution had presented no evidence to support the claim that there were differences between the couple and that Gangadhar was present at the scene at the time of the crime. The defence also contended the investigators had not done a thorough job, and that there was sufficient proof to suggest the presence of other family members in the house at the time of the incident.

Senior advocate Tonse Narayana Poojary, Satish K, Mitesh Poojary and Mohammed Farooq argued on behalf of the accused.

I don't if he is guilty or not guilty. But I am quite convinced that our crime investigation and following is broken. Not sure what happened to famous Panjimogeru double murder investigation. Police force modernization is probably the last thing in the minds of our politicians

This is our system. No body knows what really happened. Money power is important with lot of lies to get away. In most of the cases justice is denied.

Court can say he is not responsible for his wife's murder and there it ends. But real culprits are to be caught and punished. Why court does order that kind of justice and put Police people on the work. More over poor family of deceased will not get any componsation from the Government.

Looks like police anywhere in India got no standard protocol to follow. Whether guilty or not guilty, police can play either way, either by destroying or planting evidences.
