Kundapur, Nov 22: The driver of the tanker has been seriously injured in an accident which took place at Maravanthe beach near Trasi involving a tanker and a lorry on Saturday November 21 night.
The tanker driver Divakar (30) from Kadaba has been taken to a hospital in Manipal.
The tanker carrying diesel was on its way to Gangavathi from Mangaluru. When Divakar saw a lorry parked on the road because of break down, he suddenly took a right turn to avoid hitting it. But the fish carrying insulator lorry which came from the opposite side hit the tanker in the process.
Divakar was trapped inside the tanker. Helpline volunteers, Gangolli police and local people took one and half hours to take out Divakar from the tanker. Then they cleared the vehicles from the road with the help of cranes. After that the vehicular traffic on the road was restarted again.
Divakar has sustained serious injuries on his leg and head. He was rushed to Manipal after first aid in Kundapur.
Gangolli police have registered a case.
The broken down lorry had been parked there since Friday.
