Mumbai, Aug 15: Actress Sameera Reddy came to the rescue of girls from a Khar orphanage on Tuesday August 14, and prevented them from becoming homeless. Sameera has been supporting the orphanage for a long time. When she heard that the landlady of the orphanage was throwing the girls out of the house, she rushed to the spot. "I am at the orphanage and have been trying to resolve the problem. I have been supporting this place for a long time and I can't see them suffer like this for no fault of theirs, I am trying to figure out where to shift the girls from here," said the actress, speaking from Khar.
There is a background to the issue. Vijay Karande, who runs Dreams Homes the orphanage clarified, "We have two flats here in this building, one is owned by us and the other is on rental basis. A month ago one of the boys from the building misbehaved with one of our girls. We lodged a police complaint against that boy which upset the landlady." Adds Sameera, "When she started threatening to throw them out of the premises, Karande even withdrew the case against the boy hoping that she wouldn't throw them out."
Sameera is in no mood to keep quiet, "I am trying to pool in some more money to shift these girls to another place." It is learnt that Sameera spoke to an NCP politician from the area and has now managed to get permission for the girls to stay on for one more month.
