Mangaluru: Four labourers injured in mini lorry accident at Nantoor

Mangaluru, Nov 23: Several labourers had a close shave after a mini lorry in which they were travelling overturned near Nantoor junction here on Monday November 23.

The mini lorry, carrying about 30 labourers from Mulky to Thokkottu overturned after one of its rear tyres burst.

Four of the 30 labourers sustained injuries after a cement mixer that was in the vehicle toppled on them. They have been admitted to hospital.

Traffic was affected for sometime following the accident.

Kadri police have registered a case.

    The mini lorry seems to be poorly maintained. My next question, whether it is permitted to carry so many laborers in a mini lorry. If not traffic police should fine the driver.

    The lorry in question is scrap material and carrying 30 humans along with a big load is a grave offence, the owner and operator of the lorry should be immediately taken to task and lorry dumped in the junk yard!!

    Meerut: In the back of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order to ban diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol vehicles over 15 years old from plying on the streets in Delhi and NCR, the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) issued guidelines to stop re-registration of such vehicles on Monday. This is the first step taken by RTO authorities to curb the plying of such vehicles on city roads. Even if the vehicles get a no objection certificate (NOC) from some other state, they will not be registered in the city.

    "When the order was initially passed, we thought it was not practical to ute this ban at the ground level. It is impossible to check each and every vehicle's age while it is plying on the road so, to keep a tab on these vehicles, we have planned to stop re-registering the diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol vehicles over 15 years old," said Mamta Singh, regional transport officer.

    The city has a total of 30,049 diesel vehicles, out of which 4,606 are over 10 years old. Of these, 671 are private cars and 3,935 are commercial vehicles, which include taxis, light and heavy goods vehicles and buses. Asked for a record of petrol vehicles over 15 years old, RTO authorities said they did not have the data in place as of now.

    See the condition and size of the lorry where our fellow humans are transported, much much worse treatment than cattle!! Jai Mangluru!! Jai Hind!!

    the tyre that burst looks older than the mini lorry.time to sell old vehicles as scrap which consume more fuel and parts may not be found for repair.
