Bengaluru, Nov 23: The Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Monday passed the Karnataka Municipal Corporations and Certain Other Law (Amendment) Bill, 2015, for exempting certain enterprises from obtaining trade license in the jurisdiction from urban local bodies.
Senior Congress party member K R Ramesh Kumar and BJP members strongly opposed the Bill on the grounds that it would curtail power of the ULBs.
However, State Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and Industries Minister R V Deshpande defended the Bill and contended that it would increase the ease of doing business in the State.
The Karnataka Forest (Amendment) Bill, 2015, was tabled in the Assembly for increasing the forest development tax.
The collected tax amount would be utilised for taking up development and management of forests and wildlife, Forest Minister B Ramanath Rai explained.
