Udupi, Nov 23: All roads led to Udupi on Monday November 23 as the three-day 'Laksha Deepotsava' began on a vibrant note at Sri Krishna Math here in the presence of a large number of devotees.
'Laksha Deepotsava' is held during Uthana Dwadasi in Kartik Maasa (month). The idols of Lord Krishna is brought out after a gap of four months.
Sri Vidya Vallabhateertha Swamiji of Kaniyoor Math led the special puja to Lord Krishna and along with Swamijis of Admar, Krishnapura and Palimar Math, participated in the ‘Kshiraabdhisheka’ ritual at the mantap in the middle of the Madhwa Sarovar at Sri Krishna Temple premises.
The Tepotsava was held wherein a specially decorated boat carrying the idols of Lord Krishna and Lord Mukhyaprana, known as 'Utsava Murthis' was taken around the Madhwa Sarovar three times amidst the chanting of Shlokas. Prior to that, the Utsava Murthis were brought in a palaquin to the decorated boat.
Thereafter, the idols were placed in Garuda Ratha (Brahma Ratha) and Chandramouleshwar Ratha and taken in a grand procession through Car Street, flanked by thousands of devotees. The procession route was lit up by innumerable earthen lamps placed on wooden fences by devotees.
