Kundapur, Nov 23: A youngster was killed on the spot after a Maruti Swift car his bicycle near Nagoor Anjaneya temple here on Monday November 23. The car, which sped away after hitting the boy, rammed into another car, before finally being stopped by locals.

Nagesh (16) is the person deceased. His friend Akshay (16) who was riding pillion was injured.

Nagesh and Akshay, SSLC students of Kirimanjeshwara government high school, were returning home by bicycle after finishing their group study. The driver of the Maruti Swift car took a sudden right and hit the bicycle coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the accident was so severe that Nagesh succumbed to injuries on the spot and Akshay got injured. Akshay has been admitted to a hospital.

The car was moving from Shivamogga from Mangaluru via Byndoor. The driver of the car did not stop but fled from the accident spot, and then hit another car. Even then, the driver did not stop. When the car reached Kanchikan, the locals who came to know about the killer vehicle stopped it and handed over the occupants of the car to the police.

Besides recklessness of the car driver, the ongoing work related to the four-laning of the highway has been blamed for the accident. The bushes on one side of the road and the work related barricades on the other side of the road leave no space for vehicles to pass comfortably. A clear road would have allowed the cyclist to move away from the car. But that was not the case in this accident. Locals said a good road would not have killed the boy.
