Mangaluru, Nov 27: In a case reported at Kairangala near Mudipu under Konaje police limits here on Friday November 27, a woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging due to constant physical and mental harassment by her husband. It is however suspected to be a case of murder.
Shajida (27), wife of Azhar, a resident of Darkhas Compound in Kairangala, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in her residence.
Shajida had got married to Azhar, a rickshaw driver by profession, about three-and-a-half years ago. The couple has two sons, two-and-a-half-year-old Mohammed Hafeez and one-and-a-half-year-old Anas.
It is said that just a few days after marriage, Azhar began harassing Shajida mentally and physically. It is also alleged that Azhar is a drug addict.
About six months ago, Shajida and Azhar started living in a rented house near her mother's house in Kairangala. Shajida had tried her best to bring her husband out of his drug addiction, but failed, said her mother in her complaint.
The harassment continued, and on Thursday November 26, Shajida came to her mother's house weeping and reportedly told her mother that if something happened to her, she should look after her two children. This gives rise to suspicions that Shajida might have feared for her life, said her mother.
Shajida's mother Bi Fathima said in her complaint that she consoled her daughter and sent her back to her husband's house, soon after which she was found dead.
Based on the mother's complaint, the police took Azhar into custody.
Konaje police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
