Mangaluru, Nov 28: It has been revealed that 217 murders have taken place in the years 2014 and 2015 in the three coastal districts of Karnataka, namely, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada.
This revelation came in the form of answer from home minister Dr G Parameshwar provided to MLC Ivan D'Souza who had raised the question in the legislative council on Friday, November 27.
The home minister said that 341 persons have been arrested so far in the 217 murders taken place in the coastal districts in 2014 and 2015. 100 murders took place in 2014 for which 196 persons were arrested and 117 murders took place in 2015 for which 145 persons were arrested.
Out of these murders, 1 in 2014 and 3 in 2015 were related to underworld activities and all these 4 murders took place in Mangaluru city.
6 immoral rowdism cases have been registered in Dakshina Kannada from 2014 till date.
As per gang wars are concerned, the police department relies heavily on intelligence and warns the concerned persons after identifying them. Police have been told to increase night patrol to maintain better law and order, the minister said.
The minister also said that cooperation from public is required in controlling immoral rowdism. He said people should help to keep the anti- social elements away from society and come forward to register cases against them.
