Bengaluru, Nov 28: A man grew suspicious about the character of his wife after noticing that she talked over cellphone often with her male college mates and killed her. The husband, who had absconded after the murder, stands arrested by policemen of Devanahalli station.

Ashiya Khan (22) from Chikkaballapur had married Shabbir Pasha (29) from Devenahalli here about eight months ago. Shabbir works in the maintenance department of Kempegowda International Airport here. Shabbir confessed that he killed his wife out of suspicion about her character.

After marriage, the couple lived in a rented house near the old taluk office of Devanahalli. It is gathered that a few weeks before their marriage, Ashiya visited Wonder La located in the outskirts of the city in the company of some friends. Ashiya lost contact with them after leaving college, but after they met somewhere recently, they re-established contact and Ashiya was often seen talking to them over cellphone and exchanging messages over WhatsApp.

The couple often fought with each other on this issue, and relatives had intervened to settle the matter. Policemen said neighbours had seen them fighting over the issue of mobile conversations on Thursday night too.

After Ashiya slept, Shabbir smothered her to death and escaped. Neighbours who grew suspicious upon seeing that the door of the couple's house remained closed, went there after 8 am, and conveyed information about the murder to policer. Policemen found Shabbir hiding in the house of a friend in Devanahalli.
