New Delhi, Aug 18: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said he had the "courage of conviction" to do what he was doing but regretted the attitude of parties like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that even wished him death.

The Prime Minister made the stunning revelation in an interview published in India Today. The interview was however conducted over two months ago.

"It requires a big leap in approach and the attitude of the BJP is disappointing. They didn't even believe I would last as the Prime Minister and some leaders even did havens (special prayers) that I should die on a certain day," the published interview quoted Singh as saying.

Singh gave the interview in June while returning from the G-8 summit in Germany on board his special aircraft with the understanding that excerpts of it could be published once the 123 Agreement with the US was reached. The latest issue hit the stands on Friday.

"But I have faith in a higher force. I believe it was my destiny to be prime minister. I have the courage of conviction," he said in the interview.

BJP spokesperson, Vijay Kumar Malhotra denied that havens were organised by his party.

"We are a democratic party and cannot stoop to such low levels. The language used by the Prime Minister is simply unthinkable."

However, Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said the comments by Singh revealed the "true face" of an irresponsible party.

"Here is the true face of the BJP. The party could not simply digest the fact that they lost the 2004 general elections."

The revelations came on a day of dramatic developments with the opposition National Democratic Alliance convenor George Fernandes making some disparaging remarks on Thursday against Singh, in which he said that if Singh was in China, he would have been shot in the head by a bullet for his actions.

Is PM trying to gain sympathies by telling these stories? If BJP has done something like this it is definitely "un-acceptable", period. Readers, please dont jump to conclusion by reading any politician's statement - they can goto any level irrespective of party lines.

Just to name a few: Havans were done for Italy's win during football finals by congress workers to please Madame Gandhi, Rajasthan CM was projected as godess in calender by BJP workers. All parties are equally corrupt, we may have personal reasons to shut our eyes to the ill-doings of one party.

This only goes to show as to how low these spineless characters will stoop to in order to get cheap publicity. But such acts will only boomerang on them and expose their dark and ugly facade . Instead of indulging in such deplorable tactics, it is high time for them to do some introspection and soul searching as to what has gone wrong with them and first try to put their own house in order .

By mixing religion in politics and preaching and practicising divisive agenda for long they are now experiencing the law of diminishing returns in electoral politics after biting the dust in UP and hence resorting to such peculiar pranks lest the people forget them altogether before the next general elections in 2009. It is advisable to have prayers for their own survival rather than for someone else's death.

This is something very unusual for a national party like the BJP to pray for PM's death. It is true that BJP could not digest the fact that they had lost 2004 Lok Sabha elections to the Congress Party. Even our beloved George Fernandes should not have made some irresponsible statements about our PM.

What is right is right and what is wrong is wrong. Our PM is doing a good job and does not need any publicity. NDA should wait for another two years to come back to power, if at all they want to form the next Govt, which is still doubtful.

Let them a perform as a true opposition party till that time. Making personal remarks and even praying bad for our PM is a sort of uncivilised behaviour on their part. We are in democratic country and we want our decent bebaviour from all citizens. Jai Hind.
