Bengaluru, Nov 29 (DHNS): Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said that the trend of growing intolerance posed a threat to the entire society and humanity.
Addressing a gathering during the Kanakadasa Jayanti celebrations in Bengaluru on Saturday, Siddaramaiah said that intolerance and deep rooted caste system was prevalent in the past too. But in the present day scenario, “poisoning” society under the garb of Hindutva and Hindu religion was an alarming trend.
Teachings still relavant
Hence the teachings of the philosophers and saints like Basavanna and Kanakadasa were more relevant today, as they condemned inequality, superstition and caste system.
On the occasion, Siddaramaiah, who was addressing the audience at the function, also said that Purandaradasa and Kanakadasa were the proponents of Dasa philosophy, having given a base to secular and rationalist principles.
He also said that it was not right to restrict Kanakadasa to a certain caste and religion.
On the occasion, Dasa philosophy scholars, Swamirao Kulkarni and Chandrakant Bijjaragi were presented with Kanakashri and Kanaka Gourava Puraskara, 2015, respectively.
