Mangalore, Aug 20: The ‘Thritheeya sopana’ award distribution function of the Scouts and Guides movement was organized at the residence of DC here on Sunday August 19.

Speaking on the occasion M Maheshwar Rao deputy commissioner and the district president of the movement said that in view of the 100th celebration of the movement, the district administration will provide all necessary assistance to complete the Scout and Guides Bhavan in the city.

The students should not join the movement just for the sake of the camps he advised. They should think that these camps will provide some experience to them, which will help them in their future, he added.

According to Rao the scouts and guides movement teaches a child to live in harmony with different kinds of people, so that they would find themselves comfortable when they go to some new places, he opined.

The deputy commissioner also advised the students of scouts to be good scouts, and urged them to plant saplings to make the city greener.

On the occasion certificates were distributed to the scouts and guides. The Dc distributed to the scouts while Prajna Rao handed it over to the guides.

DC Rao was presented with an international scout tie and scarf.

Sachin Nayak and Mayank Chethan from St Aloysius High School and Gopal Krishna Bhat commissioner of the head quarters, three member team from the district, who had participated in the world Scout Jamboree held earlier in London, too were honoured at the event. 

I A Kairanna and M G Mohan, district chief commissioners, Irene D’Cunha, guides commissioner, Ramashesha Shetty, district secretary, Edvin Walter, treasurer, Kudpi Jagadeesh Shenoy, district vice-president, Sr Lydia, assistant commissioner, Vasudeva Bollor and Bhaskar Rao, district assistant commissioners were present on the occasion.
