Udupi: J P Hegde to contest as independent after Congress chooses Pratapchandra

Udupi, Dec 5: As expected, the Congress has chosen Pratapchandra Shetty as its candidate for the upcoming MLC polls from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada.

Pratapchandra, who is also the sitting MLC, had initially stated that he would not be contesting the MLC polls, but with strong from Congress leaders especially Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes and others, he decided to contest amidst much opposition from his own party workers.

Meanwhile, the party refused to give ticket to former MP Jayaprakash Hegde, who was a strong aspirant for the MLC polls. Sources have confirmed that J P Hegde would now be constesting the polls as an independent candidate, and would be filing his nomination on December 7.

It may be recalled that on Friday December 4, senior Congressman Bhujanga Shetty from Brahmavar openly expressed his disappointment with the party on being given the ticket, and announced that he would be contesting as independent candidate.

The MLC elections will be held on December 27. The last date to file the nomination is December 9.

He agreed to contest only because over 2000 supporters went to his house/camped and asked him to reconsider his stand. This never got any publicity. People who went there were common people on their own and there was no media.

There is no doubt about Haladi srinivas shettys ability to mingle with common people to serve them 24*7 by spending his personal money. Simple humble down to earth politician who always kept from media glare. I don't know much about Prtapachandra shetty even if he has done well earlier he himself is unwilling to context so why give ticket to him?

In the last 33 years, kundapur has ed only 2 MLA’s, Mr.Pratapchandra Shetty and Mr.Haladi srinivas Shetty ,each having won 4 times. After winning the elections, they sat in their respective homes did not go to B’lore for lobbing for minister post. HSS was called and insulted while Pratap did not receive any invitation. Both of them spent their personal wealth for public services and today, both are really bankrupt. But carry the good will of local people. They do their work silently without any publicity in print or social media. Some call them useless and not fit to be a politician.People in Kundapur are proud of them. There is also JPH hailing from Kundapur who is highly ambitious ,became the Minister in his first attempt knows how to lobby for ticket, power, and owns KPL cricket team,shimoga. You will definitely not see Mr.Pratapchandra Shetty criticizing Mr.JPH even now .He never lobbied for the ticket and agreed to contest only after being pushed by the local supporters. Today, Kundapur again is very much united irrespective of party line and will support Mr.Pratapchandra Shetty whole heartedly, you will soon see the public support.

Mr. Gour, you stick to your Delhi politics, you do not know about Coastal Karnataka.

Mr. J.P. Hegde was given only two chances by Congress, once he won the Udupi-Chikmagaluru lok sabha by poll defeating BJP Candidate Mr. Sunil Kumar by 30,000 plus votes, second time was recent lok sabha poll were he lost only due to Modi wave & anger of voters against corrupt, useless UPA rule, Ms. Shobha Karnadlje of BJP won by huge margin of more than 1 lakh votes, if any other candidate had contested other than Mr. Hegde, they would have lost by more than 2 Lakhs votes.
Mr. JP Hegde is most worthy, honest and hard working congress party worker than any other person, he is loved & respected by majority of people in Coastal Karnataka.
Go ahead Mr. JP Hegde, contest as Independent candidate, voters are with you. We call upon all the eligible voters for MLC poll, to cast their vote in favor of Mr. Hegde.

jph contested 3 times from congress:
1:against haladi srinivas shetty in mla election and lost(not only jphno one worth his salt can defeat haladi srinivas shetty in udupi district neither in past nor in future.haladys charisma is like that as halady is having personal connection with each voter of his constituency)

2:won against sunil kumar in mp election
3:lost against shobha in mp election(it was modi wave afterall.if not shoba would have lost her election deposit)

prior to jph joining congress,he was 3 time mla(one time wonfrom janata dal,2 times won as independent)along with being minister in janata dal govt.

All people commenting on this forum are oblivious from reality. Our country isn't a livable place anymore. It belongs only to the mighty, rich and powerful, while the truthful , sincere common man has to run from pillar to post for justice. There is a complete break down in administration right from the political class to the judiciary, all authority with no accountability. Only when you people have a tragedy in your family or amongst friends or known people will you all realize how helpless we are. Congress, BJP or any other political party are the same. No difference at all. All come to fill their coffers and personal ambitions. No service to the poor/needy. On Television debates all party spokespersons speak high of their parties. Unless you accept the truth, you will not prosper. These thick skinned politicians have made us fools for over 67 years. If we don't understand now, we will soon be a banana republic.

Actually, Oscar Fernandes is good for nothing as a politician. Even though he has good rapport with all party leaders at national level, he could not do much for his own constituency. So, he should stay at party head office Overlooking party activities & should make way to able leaders like JP.

Also JP should have some patience till next MP election. He can do better as MP than MLC.

My dad and brother are a big time Cong party worker .When i asked them what you gave it party thye listed thousand's But when i asked them what party gave you -BIG -0 AND BIG NOTHING. So guys please do not work go behind a party because party have its own agenda which is how to sit on chair and that's bottom line once they there .They don't even remember you .SO been there done that CONG was clean party but not anymore its controlled by a outsider they are more communal than the BJP but in white dress and shal .we in managlore choose in corporation election choose always CONG that's the reason No taxi or rikshaw driver don't want to come to our Line because our road didn't seen a Tar more than 10 year only -Thepe {pach work }

Present Congress is different from Indira Congress !! No principle,No discipline..Even there was politics at the time of Indiraji,but not at this level..Now it is dirty politics..People who thought Congres is their everything got hurt after working day night for ages.One example is Mr.Bhujanga Shetty from Brahmavar who has been working for Congress party for 38 years!! Very able and dynamic leader was not considered by Party High command till today..Now,another non corrupt leader J.P.Hegde who has been ignored..

Let me tell you one interesting story..When young Deve Gowda asked ticket from Congress for MLA post,he was promised but at the last moment he was denied ticket..Then he won MLA seat as an Independent candidate,slowly he became Opposition leader,in between he was given promise by CONGI govt to make him CM if he joined Congress..But,he denied..Rest is history..(SriDevraj Arasu, Sri Kengal Hanumanthaiah were impressed with Deve Gowda's typical style of debating in the assembly and talking to farmers)..Mr.Gowda rejected all offers from State and Central Congress committee..Finally he became CM of Karnataka, Prime Minister of India..I think if he had joined Congress, he would never become Prime Minister..

It appears that personal interests are more important that party interests. Anyway, no election of any party is not free and fair, all candidates are chosen for the leaders' advantages. Until Oscar Fernandes is there, Congress will never come up in Dakshina Kannada or Udupi. Me and my family are supporters of Congress from past 2 generations, but now I feel Congress is getting worst. When a person like J P Hegde is not given a ticket and the person who did not want to contest is forced to contest, I don't know what this Congress wants to do.

Earlier Tippu Jayanthi, and now this dirty game. I think a lot of Congress supporters are loosing their trust in Congress. Very bad Mr.Oscar Fernandes though you have a good hold in Congress. I hope you read this comment.

Congress party given the ticket to Mr.Hegde for two times for contest the MP election from Udupi and he could get the ticket for 2019 election also. But he is taking such a step will spoil his political career. May be he will become one more Vasanth Salian. Party's official candidates only can win MLC & Rajya Sabha election and rebels or independents cannot win. Mr.Prathap Chandra Shetty and M.A.Gaffoor also working in Congress very sincerely since last 3 decades much before Hegde joins the party. Hope Hegde will re consider his decision and will wait for his turn. Good luck.

It is sad to see leaders such as Oscar Fernandes who have little or no influence among the masses in the coastal districts is still calling the shots in Congress.
