One Held for Robbery in Chemmanur Jewellers B'lore

Mangalore, Aug 21: The city police led by inspector Jayanth Shetty have arrested one Umesh Shetty from Moodbidri near here in connection with the Rs 3 crore robbery from Chemmanur Jewellers in Bangalore.
Umesh was arrested on Monday August 20 night. The police have also recovered 2 kilograms of stolen gold from Umesh Shetty.
Police sources said that another 11 more persons in this connection are yet to be arrested. Among them 5-6 of them are from Dakshina Kannada district while there is one from Kerala and Shringeri too. The mastermind behind this August 11 robbery is said to be a native of Kerala. He was earlier involved in another huge robbery in Hyderabad too.
The city police team led by inspector Jayanth Shetty was investigating the Subba Rao murder case when they came across Umesh Shetty. When they subjected him to further investigation, he confessed that he was involved in Chemmanur Jewellery robbery case. The Bangalore police are expected to arrive in the city on Tuesday August 21 to take Umesh into their custody.
As reported earlier, a team of 10-12 robbers who had gained entry into Chemmanur Jewellers at Kammanahalli in Bangalore had decamped with Rs 3 lac in casha and 36 kilograms of gold. The total worth of the stolen valuables was Rs 3 crore. Since the robbers were armed with revolvers, neither the jewellery workers nor the customers could stop them from robbing.
