Udupi, Aug 22: D H Shankaramurthy, minister for Higher Education, inaugurated the developmental projects of Udupi Municipality costing Rs 12.27-crore, here on Tuesday, August 21. He urged the officials and contractors to complete the work on schedule without compromising on quality.
Shankaramurthy even inaugurated postgraduate courses in Social Work, English Literature, Economics, BBM and B Sc courses at the Government First Grade College.
He further stated that education was one of the yardstick by which one can measure the development of a country. People should take higher education, so that India will be a developed nation one day, he advised.
Earlier governments had not paid enough attention to education, he regretted.
The government has decided to open postgraduate centers at government colleges in order to encourage higher education, he added.
Raghupati Bhat MLA presided over the function. Linda Christie joint director of Collegiate Education, G Yogananda principal of the college, Jayaprakash Mavinakuli principal of MGM College and Vijaykumar Udyavar president of Udupi Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee, were also present.
