Mangalore, Aug 22: The Dakshina Kannada police with the help of Bangalore CCB police, acting on the tip-off given by arrested Umesh Shetty have achieved major breakthrough in Chemmanur Jewellers robbery case by arresting 6 more persons.

While police have arrested one more in the district, 4 other persons have been arrested in Koppa district including a woman.  But incidentally all the arrested are the natives of undivided district of Dakshina Kannada.

The Fraser Town police led by inspector Nagaraj raided a house situated at SVT Road on Monday August 20 night and arrested Balakrishna (40) and his wife Hema (30).  Both of them are said to be the natives of Karje near Brahmavar in Udupi district.  However, one more person Gopal Shetty has managed to escape during the raid.

The police had earlier arrested on Nandish who spilled the beans.  Accordingly police raided the rented house of Hema.  But before police could round up the entire house, Gopal managed to escape from the back door with huge quantity of gold.  He is said to have jumped off the first floor before disappearing in the woods via a coffee estate.  However, the police have managed to recover huge amount of gold from Hema.

Hema along with her son Akash and two other relatives was residing in a rented house owned by GP member Sharada Vithal on Bharath Rice Mill Road.  It was only a couple of days ago that she had shifted to new house on SVT Road.  Her son Akash was going to Venkateshwar Vidyamandir School.

Sources said that 3-4 young men used to visit her house almost everyday and used to be in the house even late in the night.  But she had told her neighbours that all of them were her relatives.

The police are yet to nab others including one Gopal, a native of Kerala who is said to be the mastermind behind the robbery.  Though certain sources say that he has already been arrested by DK police, nothing is yet confirmed.

The major robberies narrated above were of great concern for the people. The criminals encouraged by their momentary success intensify their anti national activities. The police, yet again did a very commendable job.

We must remember that the police must have shown great resolve and dedication braving all odds to outsmart the seasoned criminals. Surely, to make them admit the crime, the police may have used a bit of force and some special treatment as providing biriyani or ice cream will not make the robbers admit their crime.
