Mangaluru, Dec 11: The police have been accused of arresting a wrong person relating to a case in Ulaibettu due to mistaken identity. This was revealed in a press meet held in Mangaluru by Ulaibettu Nagarika Samithi member Abdul Nazir on Thursday, December 10.
Abdul Nazir said that police who were supposed to arrest Abubakker Siddique, son of Usman, arrested Abubakker Siddique, son of Shekabba instead. But even after bringing this fact to their notice, they did not act.
“Abubakker Siddique who was arrested by the police is not a person they were looking for. Circle inspector Pramod Kumar and team did the arrest. In fact this Abubakker Siddique is the son of Shekabba on whom no complaint was registered. But the police registered a case against him after the arrest. When the relatives of the arrested person went to the police station to tell them that they have arrested a wrong person, they were told that ‘Arrested person is a robber and a rape accused’. The police also used abusive words,” said Abdul Nazir.
“Police called two persons namely Mohammed Iqbal and Mohammed Shahid to the police station and registered cases against them relating to communal clashes. But there was no case registered against any woman. The two persons were kept under illegal custody. Hence senior members of Ulaibettu Jamat went to the police commissioner to complain about these facts. Abubakker Siddique was there in the delegation which met the commissioner. There is no person named Abubakker Siddique son of Usman in Ulaibettu as mentioned in the complaint. Police themselves are trying to play politics to disrupt peace. “ Abdul Nazir added.
Mohammed Iqbal the president of Ulaibettu Nagarika Samithi, Secretary Siddique Kempugudde, members Amir, Shariff and Abdulla, uncle of arrested Abubakker Siddique were present in the press meet.
