Mangaluru, Dec 12: The Padil-Bajal railway underbridge, work on which has been going on for almost one-and-a-half years, has opened for traffic, but only temporarily.
Speaking to daijiworld, corporator of the area Vijaykumar Shetty said that the underbridge has been opened temporarily as the Kannur-Veeranagar stretch is under repair.
"The Kannur-Veeranagar road has been closed for repair, hence to reduce inconvenience to commuters, the Padil-Bajal underbridge has been opened temporarily. However, the underbridge will not be closed again," he said.
"There are a few works on the underbridge still pending, and we aim to finish them in two months' time," he added.
"Lights have been installed in the underbridge, but the MCC is yet to give electricity connection. This would be done by today," he said.
The foundation for Padil-Bajal railway underbridge was laid on August 16, 2014 by the then union minister for railways D V Sadananda Gowda. The project was expected to finish by February this year, but the deadline was later extended to June and then to October. The underbridge is now expected to be completely ready by February 2016.
