Udupi, Dec 15: Thieves stole materials worth Rs 2 lac from Janardhana temple at Pangala in Kaup police limits at unknown time between Sunday night and Monday December 15 morning.

The theft was discovered when the priest of the temple Subramanya Bhat came to the temple at around 9 am today. The entrance of Garbha Gudi was broken open to steal the materials mainly silver ones including Prabhavali.

It is not conclusively known as to how the thieves entered the temple. Only the Garbha Gudi door was broken. Some sources said the thieves must have remained inside while the temple was closed last night. They used the back door to go out from the temple, they said. Whether the same door was used to enter the temple is not known and could not be ascertained .

Circle inspector from Kaup police station Sunil Nayak and his team visited the temple with finger print experts and other squads. A case stands registered at Kaup police station and investigation is on.
