Karkala: George Castelino Gets National-level Award

Karkala, Aug 24: Well-known teacher, state award winner,  able organizer, master compere and headmaster of Shri Mahalingeshwar School at Nakre near here has bagged the prestigious 'National-level Best Teacher Award' for the year 2006-07.

George Castelino is well-known in the region as 'Georgy Master' and is being liked by one and all for his helpful nature and humane dealings.  Being an ace compere he has compered for more than 5,000 Kannada, Konkani and Tulu programmes free of cost.  He is the founder president of Karkal unit of Catholic Sabha.

He has also publishes a Konkani book named "Karyem Sobhann", which a key help in organizing Konkani programmes.  He had been awarded as the best teacher at the state-level in the year 2004-05.

At present he lives in Nakre with his wife Reena and children.

He will presented with the award by President Pratibha Patil at a gala function to be held in New Delhi on September 5.

I have seen him during my High School days in Attur, where he too was a student around second half of the 60's.     Well deserved Award for Mr. George Castelino. It should have come a long ago but never late than never. I have known him since my childhood and have been an amid admirer of him and his works. I am so happy to see him in the Daijiworld website for his superb achivement in the field of Education. He is also known for his fantastic speeches at the gatherings, in the churchs.

    He comes from a background of well knit catholic family with a brother an sister already serving for God in the religious field, His sons too have followed the religious vocatins. An excellent public orator, such a down to earth simple man, deserves this award. My sincere congratulations to you.     congratulations 'Georgy Master' for your achievements. I have seen 'Georgy Master' when i was around 10 to 15 years of age (about 25 years back) compering at one of my cousine uncle's wedding at Nakre. Great achievements from a village like Nakre.
