Udupi, Dec 16: The International Association of Lions Club Dist317 C organized an Annual Sports meet named Besuge-2015 on Sunday, December 13 at District Sports Ground, Ajjarkad, Udupi. A rally was taken from Town Hall through the streets of Udupi and back to the Ajjarkad ground.
The main purpose of the sports meet was to bring awareness of the importance of health. People made time from their busy schedule and attended the meet. The meet was not only limited to students alone but also to all the elderly citizens. Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty, assistant director of Youth Empowerment and Sports Dept, Guiness record holder for swimming, Gopala Kharvi, Guiness record holder for swimming, Master Anvesh Moodbidre and Master Ronnon Lewis were felicitated on the occasion.
“Despite all the facilities, people do not make use of them. I have made all possible arrangements for people to exercise here. People who are interested in the games should participate,” said Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty.
Around 2000 and more people from all over the city, Kundapur, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, Mangaluru attended the meet. Kabaddi, Volley Ball, Throw Ball, Athletics, and many other entertainment games were conducted.
Half Marathon and 20km walk were organized for men and women at Ajjarkad grounds which began at 6.30 am. All the lions participating in this event were identified. Ln. D. Shridhar Shetty said that by participating in games, people of all age groups can maintain good health. These sports meet bring people together from all over the place, which brings joy and good health in their lives. In the coming days, such meets should be organized in other districts of Udupi which will help people to get to know each other much better.
Lns Jyothi S Shenava and Ln D Shridhar Shenava, mjf, Dist Governor inaugurated the annual sports meet by lighting the lamp. The guests invited for the meet were Ln B Diwakar Shetty, mjf, 1st Vice Dist Governor, Ln. A R Ujjanappa, pmjf, 2nd Vice Dist Governor, Lns Nirupama Prasad Shetty, Dist Lioness Co-ordinator, Leo. Shramya J Shetty, Dist Leo President, Ln Jayakar Shetty Indrali, mjf, Dist Lioness Advisor, Ln Suresh Shetty, mjf, Dist Leo Mentor and others were present. Chief Co-ordinator Ln. Vasanth Shetty, mjf welcomed the gathering. N M Hedge proposed the oath taking. Satish Shetty was the host for the day.
