Udupi, Dec 17: 'Made Snana', the practice of rolling on leftover meals, was observed at the Sri Subramanya Gudi of Sri Krishna Math here on Thursday December 17.
Over a hundred persons belonging to the upper caste had meals, after which about 40 devotees, both men and women, young and old, rolled over the plantain leaves of leftovers.
A religious scholar at the Math said, "Made Snana has been organized as per the wishes of devotees. It is believed to be good for health also. Sri Subramanya is the chief of all temples, and on this day, the deity is anointed with tender coconut water and other items.
"Some devotees perform Made Snana as it is their belief. It has been performed here from 500 years, since the time of Sri Vadiraja," he added.
Srinivas Acharya Kinnimulky, a devotee who performed Made Snana, said, "I have been doing this from the past 12 years, and I will do it in future too. I have benefited from it. Earlier I used to have skin problems but since I started performing Made Snana, all problems have gone away and I have had no issues with my health. Hence, I do it out of a strong belief and I will continue it in future too."
Meanwhile, 'Yede Snana', the practice of rolling over 'prasadam' offered to the deity, was performed at Muchilkodu Subramanya Temple in Kukkikatte, in which 11 devotees took part. The Kukkikatte temple comes under Pejawar Math, whose chief Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji suggested Yede Snana as an alternative to Made Snana.
