Udupi, Dec 17: 'Made Snana', the practice of rolling on leftover meals, was observed at the Sri Subramanya Gudi of Sri Krishna Math here on Thursday December 17.

Over a hundred persons belonging to the upper caste had meals, after which about 40 devotees, both men and women, young and old, rolled over the plantain leaves of leftovers.

A religious scholar at the Math said, "Made Snana has been organized as per the wishes of devotees. It is believed to be good for health also. Sri Subramanya is the chief of all temples, and on this day, the deity is anointed with tender coconut water and other items.

"Some devotees perform Made Snana as it is their belief. It has been performed here from 500 years, since the time of Sri Vadiraja," he added.

Srinivas Acharya Kinnimulky, a devotee who performed Made Snana, said, "I have been doing this from the past 12 years, and I will do it in future too. I have benefited from it. Earlier I used to have skin problems but since I started performing Made Snana, all problems have gone away and I have had no issues with my health. Hence, I do it out of a strong belief and I will continue it in future too."

Meanwhile, 'Yede Snana', the practice of rolling over 'prasadam' offered to the deity, was performed at Muchilkodu Subramanya Temple in Kukkikatte, in which 11 devotees took part. The Kukkikatte temple comes under Pejawar Math, whose chief Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji suggested Yede Snana as an alternative to Made Snana.

The religious scholar told it was held from 500 years. when I was 7, I got some scares on my body.our neibour old lady told to apply fresh boiled rice mixing original turmeric power with mild heat, after it get dry in one hour take bath. No spicy or oil to be add. It was cured for me doing for 3 days. But I don't believe rolling over after the upper cast people eat and left. Just think, on olden days the educated peoples does not work on muddy field. The uneducated people who works in the field get scares in the skin were refer to apply the same for curing. But some people not ready to apply them self, so pandits would have said them to do MA DE snana in the name of God at Temples. But one thing is, if I believe, I get cure doing a wrong treatment(not in my knowledge) with out affecting others, no one have to dig and find is it right or wrong. It is their own believe.

It is unconstitutional to restrict people from expressing their belief. One person's belief can be another's superstition. By definition - that's why it's called belief. People have the freedom to pursue their religion. Just because another does not believe in it, (s)he cannot restrict believers from following their religion. I appreciate that most people who commented maintained that respect for another's faith. It shows an intellectual ability that many politicians, media houses and "activists" / "(g)literati" fail to possess.

Let us live with tolerance, policy recently unearthed by political intolerants!
There are abubdent intelectuals here in the country who still believe that these type of supersticious beliefs prevail only in Hindus!

One's beliefs can be illogical or superstitious for another person.
Some hindu rituals are funny and absurd for muslims and christians and vice versa.
It is intellectual maturity to respect others beliefs.
