Kasargod, Dec 18: In connection with the murder of well-known kabaddi player from Nileshwar, G Santosh (39), the police personnel of Nileshwar station have since arrested his wife, identified as K V Ranjusha (30).
The police say that their investigation has led them to believe that Santosh was killed due to murder conspiracy hatched by his wife. They say they got clue about the wife's involvement after checking mobile calls and conversations made by the cellphones belonging to accused, Manoj, and Ranjusha.
In this connection, C Manoj (37) from Karyangodu had been arrested sometime back. The policemen have concluded that Manoj and Ranjusha had planned this murder a day before Santosh was killed.
The investigators smelt of wife's involvement on the very day the murder came to light. In this backdrop, the police sought assistance from cyber cell of the department to check mobile calls made over the cellphones of the two accused. It was found that Ranjusha had called Manjoj on his mobile phone several times before the murder and thereafter.
Santosh's lifeless body had been recovered from his home on December 7. Initially, it was suspected that he had died of cardiac arrest. Some of his relatives had expressed suspicion about the cause of death, after observing a minor injury on the neck of the deceased. Postmortem was conducted at Pariyaram Medical College Hospital. Postmortem report confirmed that Santosh was smothered to death, and on this basis, the policemen had conducted investigation.
A number of people were questioned. When Manoj, son of Santosh's aunt, who used to frequent the latter's house, was subjected to questioning, details of the gory act came to light.
Santosh was murdered by tightening a nylon rope around his neck when he was sleeping, the investigation has revealed. Reportedly, Manoj and Ranjusha were involved with illicit relationship and Santosh was killed because of this relationship.
