DC bars sand mining in the vicinity of five important bridges

Mangaluru, Dec 18: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, A B Ibrahim, has issued orders banning sand mining for a distance of 500 metres from five leading bridges in the district. These bridges are Ullal Bridge across River Netravati, Kulur Bridge across Phalguni River, Malavoor Bridge across River Phalguni, Gurpur Bridge across River Phalguni, and Moolarapatti Muttoor Bridge..

After confirming that sand mining has been going on in the vicinity of these bridges on a continuous basis, the deputy commissioner took a decision to ban this activity. He had undertaken verification visit of these places in the company of officials from PWD, revenue, as well as mines and geology departments on December 12.

A release from the office of the deputy commissioner said that the aboe order has come into affect from December 16.
