Chikkaballapur, Dec 21: Frustrated at unending domestic quarrel, a young lady jumped to death from Tipu Drop at Nandi Betta hills in the district on Saturday December 19. The deceased has been identified as Prathyusha (25) from Gauribidanur and her two-year-old son, Satwik.

The body of Satwik remained untraceable even after marathon search operation on Sunday too. The lady's parents have filed a complaint in the rural station here, stating that dowry harassment was the cause for this suicide.

A large number of people had gathered at the district hospital compound where Prathyusha's body was kept. Her relatives said that Prathyusha faced sustained harassment at the hands of her in-laws, who sought additional dowry. The parents even went to the extent of claiming that the in-laws had harassed and killed Prathyusha and dropped her body down from Tipu Drop. They have asked the police to conduct investigation impartially without bowing to pressure tactics, and ensure that justice is done to the young woman.

Tahsildar, Jagadish, who performed inquest as per procedure, said that he has been informed that the mother-son duo had jumped from Tipu Drop in Nandi Betta. As the marriage was less than seven years old, postmortem and inquest need to be performed in the presence of taluk magistrate. If the parents give compliant in writing the policemen will investigate the case and punish the guilty if any, he added.
