Bangalore, Aug 28:  All steps taken by the government to protect environment has failed miserably, rued the minister for health and family welfare R Ashok, while speaking after the inauguration of ‘Tourist Interpretation Centre’ in Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) here, on Monday August 27.

The minister in order to attract tourist here exhorted everyone stating that it is the responsibility of the people to make tourist destinations 100 per cent plastic-free zones.
 
In this connection, the minister while announcing an allocation of Rs 146 crore to improve and protect the environment, informed that around 10-15 kg of plastic is recovered from major tourism destinations everyday.
 
With regard to the newly opened tourist centre, secretary to government, information, tourism, kannada and culture I M Vittal Murthy explained that the construction of the centre was delayed by three years due to political and technical reasons, but now it has been constructed within three months.
 
MD, Jungle Lodges and Resorts Limited, N D Tiwari, principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife) Indu B Srivatsava, director, department of tourism Dr C Somasekhara and others were present on the occasion.
