Udupi, Aug 31: The Taluk Panhchayat would construct ‘Samarthya Soudha, a multi-storied building to hold satellite-based training programmes of the Rural Development and Panchayathraj department for elected representatives at an estimated cost of Rs 19 lakh, said TP President Shyamala Sudhakar.

Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, Shyamala said that Rs 17 lakh from the state government and Rs 2 lakh from the TP Development Fund would be utilized for constructing the building.

Former chief minister M Veerappa Moily would lay the foundation stone for ‘Samarthya Soudha on Aug 31, at 11 am, at the TP staff quarters premises at Ajjarkad.

District In-charge Minister Dr V S Acharya would preside over the programme. On the occasion, Presidents of eight gram panchayaths- Chantharu, Uliyaragoli, Belapu, Katapady, Thenkanidiyoor, Majoor, Kallianpura and Pandeshwara, which were awarded with the ‘Niramala Grama Puraskar’ title by the Centre, would be honoured.

President of Manipura gram panchayath, the‘Best Gram Panchayath of the taluk, would also be honoured on the occasion.

Taluk Panchayat Vice-President P Rajaram, members Ramesh Shetty, Ramesh Kanchan and Vasanth Marne were present at the press meet.
