Mangalore,  Sep 2: Minister for fisheries and religious endowments B Nagaraja Shetty, while presiding over the review meeting of Karnataka Development Programme here late last week informed that the government had plans to start Volvo bus service from all the assembly constituencies of the district to Bangalore shortly.

Moily further stated that the government will introduce 18 additional Volvo buses to the Mangalore division of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). This will take the number of Volvo buses in the division to 49. Efforts were being made carry out repairs to two Volvo buses expeditiously, he added.

Giving details about this plan, the KSRTC Mangalore divisional controller P.B. Karumbaiah stated that upgradation of the KSRTC main bus station at Bejai here, would be completed by October end costing Rs 2.5 crore approximately.

According to him, the Mangalore division of KSRTC had earned a profit of Rs. 5.59 crore in the last fiscal year and was determined to provide better facilities to passengers in future too.

In response to a plea by Ullal MLA U T  Khader for additional buses to Amblamogaru area in his constituency, Shetty instructed Regional Transport Officer H N Ramesh and  Karumbaiah to try and introduce additional buses, at least during peak hours.
