Mangaluru, Jan 7: The city crime branch (CCB) police have arrested eight associates of underworld element Vicky Shetty alias Balakrishna Shetty, who is absconding abroad, in two separate cases.

Addressing a press meet here on Thursday January 7, police commissioner Chandra Sekhar said that in the first case, the arrested gangsters were planning a dacoity at Gundurao lane in Marakada village, when they were nabbed by the CCB police.

The arrested are Gaurish alias Sujith alias Gauri (26), a resident of Bajal, Jayesh alias Sachchu (23), a resident of Bondel, Naveen Shetty alias Pili Naveen (34), a resident of Akash Bhavan, Praveen Kumar alias K P Praveen (26), a resident of Golthamajal, Bantwal, Harshith (22) of Kulshekar and Guruprasad (30), a resident of Kankanady.

The police commissioner said that early morning on January 7, the police received credible information that the associates of Vicky Shetty were planning to commit some offence and were waiting in a white Ritz and a Maruthi Swift car in front of an orphanage in Gundurao lane, Marakada village. Acting on this tip-off, CCB police led by inspector Valentine D'Souza raided the spot and succeeded in nabbing the gangsters.

Four swords, six mobile phones and two cars were seized from the accused.

Some of the arrested are accused in the murder of Vikki alias Vikram Boloor under Ullal police limits in 2015, while others are accused in the murder of Prashant alias Pachchu that took place under Mangaluru south police limits in 2013.

Asked who the accused were planning to attack, the police commissioner said that it would be known only after investigations.

Two more associates of Vicky Shetty arrested

Chandra Sekhar said that in another case, two more associates of underworld element Vicky Shetty were arrested by the CCB police.

The arrested are Sachin Gowda (31) from Puttur, currently residing in an apartment in Bejai, and Pawan Shetty (21) a resident of Shaktinagar.

Early morning on January 7, the CCB police received credible information that associates of Vicky Shetty were carrying pistol illegally and were wandering around Keerthi Mahal lodge near KSRTC bus stand in order to commit some crime. Acting on this tip-off, the CCB police led by Valentine D'Souza rushed to the spot and nabbed the accused.

The police seized a pistol, two mobile phones and five live bullets.

Among the accused, Sachin Gowda was involved in the murder of one Rajesh in 2004 under Urwa police limits. He is also an accused in a theft attempt under Mangaluru rural police limits in 2014. The other accused Pawan Shetty was involved in the murder of Durgaprasad Shetty in the year 2014 in Mangaluru south police limits.

To a question on drug abuse in the city, the police commissioner said that the police are trying to nip the problem in the bud by tracing the kingpin. He further said that strict action would be taken against those involved in drug peddling.

All of these nabbed youth have a desperate look having just one wish and dream which is to get rich overnight. The main reason for this is unemployment. 'Idle mind is devils workshop' which leads to one crime after the other. We must congratulate CCB Inspector Valentine D'Souza for using his intelligence and nabbing these youth well before committing any crime. He is always on time since years doing what is required of him as a Police Inspector. I really salute him for this. May God protect such brave intelligent police officers.

Sir Commissioner sir, if the accused are real culprits then please don't arrest them and put behind bars. Please make it as a encounter and kill them in the spot and since they are carrying weapons which is a plus point for proving Police Dept as a encounter.
