Udupi, Jan 8: A three-day diocesan youth convention ‘Shine 2016’ by ICYM began at Trinity Central School, Perampalli here on Friday January 8.
Msgr Baptist Menezes, vicar general, diocese of Udupi, who presided over the inaugural ceremony said, "Youths are the flowers of the diocese. Youths should make the best use of this convention."
Priyanka Mary Francis, CEO of zilla panchayat, Udupi was the chief guest on the occasion. In her message to youth, she said, “Youths tend to have a lot of confusion about which career to choose. To bring about a positive change in society, more youths should join civil services."
Fr Edwin, director, Youth Commission, Udupi, spoke about the convention and meaningfully elucidated the purpose of the event. He further asked youths to focus on reality than scripted life. He also interpreted the motto of the ICYM, ‘To Lead, To Serve, To Shine’ on the occasion.
Fr Charles, director IYCS, France in his address, said, “Many opportunities come knocking on your doorstep. One must recognize, understand and serve them. A youth must understand his role in church and society. One must understand the emotions of the youth in order to understand them better."
Fr Anil D’Costa, principal, Trinity Central School, Perampalli, Fr Romeo Lewis, parish priest, Perampalli, Vipin Paul, president, regional ICYM, Sr Hilda FMA, lady animator, Walter D’Souza, animator, Derick Mascarenhas, president, ICYM and Vivina Saldanha, secretary, Diocese of Udupi were present on the dais.
Antony Mendonca and Jovita D’souza compered the event, while Derick welcomed and Vivina proposed the vote of thanks.
The three-day youth convention will conclude on Sunday, January 10. A workshop will be organized on Saturday, January 9 where youths will get a platform to voice their opinions and questions.
