Bengaluru, Jan 9: The south zone bench of National Green Tribunal (NGT) at Chennai has given green signal for Yettinahole project, which plans to supply water from Yettinahole rivulet to plains. With this, a number of works undertaken under the project, which had been halted halfway, have got the nod for their continuance.
The tribunal, based on clearance given by the union department of forests and environment, permitted for the continuance of the project. Before undertaking works on 13.93 acres of forest land, however, the government has to meet certain conditions imposed by the union government's environment ministry.
The bench also dismissed review petitions filed by Yatiraj, Kishore and Somashekhar from Tumakuru, Hassan and Mangaluru, against the project. It has adjourned hearing into certain technical aspects of the project to January 27.
In the recent past, a regional empowered committee of the union government headed by IFS officer, Shivaraj, had met in the city to consider the issue, and after its members visited the project site, had given recommendations in favour of the project.
