Karkala, Jan 14: A Sri Lankan citizen, K R Rafiya, has come to Karkala in search of her husband. She has accused Syed Mohin Yousuf from Iruvathur in the taluk of marrying her when in the Gulf, and then deserting her.
Rafiya says that when she was working as a beautician in Kuwait sometime back, Syed Mohin Yousuf, who was working for a concern in the same city, got to know her in 2010. They fell in love with each other and married in the presence of Muslim clerics at Kuwait in 2012, she says. She has accused Yousuf of leaving for India in 2013 to attend marriage of sister, and never coming back to Kuwait thereafter. She claims she was unaware of his whereabouts and plans after he left.
Rafiya says that she kept waiting with the hope that her husband would return one day. But she later came to know that Yousuf had married another woman. She has filed a complaint in the police station here after coming here searching for her man a few days back, seeking justice. When the policemen summoned Yousuf to the station, he denied the allegation.
Rafiya says she has faith in Indian judicial system and is also prepared to live with her husband, although he has married another woman from Kaup immediately after returning here in 2013. She has provided copies of certain documents about their marriage and also photos taken in the company of Yousuf.
Assistant superintendent of police, Dr Sumana, promised to make efforts to see that justice is done in the case.
