Mangaluru, Jan 14: Foundation stone was laid for St Aloysius Gonzaga School by Mangaluru south MLA J R Lobo and former rector and pricipal of St Aloysius college. Fr Dr Leo D'souza S J blessed the foundation stone here at St Aloysius Gonzaga kindergarten grounds on January 14.
Addressing the gathering Lobo said "I acknowledge the service rendered by Jesuit institutions in Mangaluru. This is one of the oldest education institutions in Mangaluru. Today about 15,000 students study in this campus. Service rendered by these institutions in this part of the country is immense. Those days it was difficult to start an education institution unlike now. We need to remember their service given in the past. This CBSC school is another feather in their cap. I congratulate and wish them all the success."
Addressing the gathering MLC Ivan D'souza said "This institution has given education to many students. The service given by this institution in the field of education is great. These institutions have shown that great service can be delivered selflessly. This institution is a beacon light to all of us. I congratulate and wish them all the success. I thank them for installing solar energy in their campus. I request all the institutions to emulate them."
Addressing the gathering MLC and chief whip of legislative council Ganesh Karnik said "We have plenty of problems in the country today. All parents dream of giving quality education to their children. There are about 1,000 plus government and aided schools in the state. The number of students in each school is less than 50. In this scenario government is confused whether to run the school or to close. There are many problems like shortage of teachers, infrastructure and many other issues. These problems have come because of increase in the number of schools. The Catholic institutions have contributed greatly in the field of education thoughout the country and more particularly in the coastal region. I compliment and commend their contribution."
Rector St Aloysius institutions, Mangaluru, Fr Denzil Lobo S J said "Jesuits have known to be educationists for more than 500 years. Education can change the society. At St Aloysius our motto is to transform and give good men and women to the society through quality education."
