Udupi, Jan 15: Devotional frenzy and joyous celebrations were on generous display at car street here on Thursday January 14, when three chariots which were decorated in a grand fashion, were pulled on the occasion of Makara Sankramanana, also known as Sankranti here.
Makara Sankramana day, which also happens to be the beginning day of Uttarayana which is believed to be auspicious season, has a special significance in the history of Srikrishna Math here because Sri Madhwacharya had installed the idol of Lord Srikrishna here seven centuries back.
Lord Prana Devaru's idol was installed in the small chariot, which was followed by Lord Anantheshwara in the middle chariot, while the chariot on which Lord Srikrishna and Mukhyaprana were mounted comprised the last of the chariots.
Thousands of devotees, who had gathered here to witness the holy sight of the three chariots being pulled, chanted the praises of Lord Srikrishna and other deities during the procession. Atrractive display of crackers arranged on the occasion added to the mood of joyous celebration.
Paryaya Kaniyoor Sri Vidyavallabhateertha Swamiji, Sri Ishapriyateertha Swamiji of Admar Math, Sri Vidyasagarateertha Swamiji of Krishnapura Math, Sri Vidyadheeshateertha Swamiji of Palimar Math, Sri Vishwavallabhateertha Swamiji of Sode Math, Sri Laxmivarateertha Swamiji of Shiroor Math, Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji of Puttige Math and junior swamiji of Pejawar Math, Sri Vishwaprasannateertha Swamiji, participated in the procession.
The Brahmaratha is being pulled again on account of Choornotsava at 9.30 am on Friday at the car street.
