Mangaluru, Jan 18: Clashes erupted between two groups at Faisalnagar near Padil here late night on Sunday January 17, resulting in stone-pelting and damage to houses and vehicles.

The clashes soon took a communal turn and stones were pelted at houses, and bikes and houses damaged.

It is alleged that a group of persons of a community returning from a programme caught hold of a man who works in a mosque and who was walking near Padil-Bajal railway underbridge, and started abusing him for no apparent reason. A youth who was passing by tried to intervene, and he too was allegedly assaulted by the group. They also assaulted another person who was at the spot. Meanwhile, the person they had assaulted first managed to escape.

Soon after, in retaliation, a group of about eight persons of a community allegedly barged into houses in Faisalnagar and created havoc. They also pelted stones and damaged property.

Five complaints were lodged against the group of vandals. Savitri in her complaint said that eight people barged into her house and damaged property worth Rs 10,000. In another complaint, Sujata stated that the same group entered her house and damaged her Alto car, causing loss worth Rs 1 lac. Also, the group damaged a car and a Honda Activa belonging to one Deekshith.

Sources also said that the group entered the house of an elderly lady and manhandled her.

Mangaluru rural police arrived at the spot and took control of the situation. Tight security has been deployed at the spot.

Sharfuddin and Sirajuddin who were assaulted near the Padil railway underbridge, along with Shaan, driver of a bus, Swastik, Sushant, Keerthiraj, Niranjan and Deekshith were injured in the incident and admitted to hospital. Sharfuddin claimed that the assault was carried out by a person named Raja who was known to him and that his group consisting of about 15-20 persons came armed with weapons in bikes and a car.

Sources said that three persons have been arrested, but the police did not confirm the same.

Mangaluru rural police have registered a case and investigations are on.

Dear Mr. Mahendra Shetty, please read the news article properly before commenting. I think, the reason for the unwanted clashes and tension in the area was due to a group of people trashing and humiliating a person leaving after completing his duty in a Mosque. Can you please tell me, are those (group of) people who trashed this person are from ISIS? Please don’t come to a conclusion the moment you see any link to one community involved with any issue and don’t link them to ISIS or Pakistan etc.

Please don’t take me wrong here! I am against any such organization who are responsible for such incidents and creating tension not only in Mangalore but all over India. I want to see India as one of the most peaceful place in the world and if we common people think alike, then for sure we can and we can prevent any such group from creating tension in our INDIA.

If Police wants...they can get hold of all those who damaged property!! Make vandals pay each penny for the damages! Keep them in jail until damaged property is paid fully irrespective religion! Next time they will think before they lift their dirty hand!! Why it is happening only in Mangalore??? Religion support and polarizing is too much compared to Udupi!!

Punish the guilty who created problem and send them to Ballary to desist other would be troubles. Their personal problems should not turn in to communal tension and in no way innocents of any community should be troubled.

I think in India, majority of assaults, riots are started due to politics.
See today's TOI, Mumbai Edition page 12, wherein Hindu Mahasabha threatens BJP in relation Ram Mandir, said they will campaign against BJP in UP, if BJP does not pass law on Ram Mandir.
Quote: The mahasabha also said it would foil any attempt by BJP or RSS to set off communal riots in West UP. Unquote.

Without prejudice, divisions existed in the Indian society long before the arrival of the Portuguese. What the Portuguese did was persecution which in turn greatly contributed for the unification of Hindus.
