Mangaluru, Jan 17: The much-awaited 50th Claud Nite was a grand success with more than 3,000 people gathered at St Sebastian church ground, Bendore here on Sunday, January 17 enjoying every bit of the evening. Celebration was double as it was also the annual day of the church.
In the formal function held prior to the musical extravaganza, regional forest officer Clifford Lobo was the chief guest and the parish priest of the church Fr Antony Serrao presided over. In his address Clifford called the management of the diocese to motivate the young Catholic youth to join the civil services. "We give quality education to our students and most of our students excel in whatever they study. I feel that somewhere we have gone wrong as we have very less representation in bureaucracy. I request the diocese to look into this aspect and motivate the young Catholic youth to join the civil services. I also wish you all a happy feast."
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Antony Serrao said, "It is a proud moment for the Bendore parishioners as it is the 50th musical nite of our fellow parishioner. Only few have reached this milestone. I congratulate Claud for this achievement."
Later Molly Rego unveiled the musical CD 'Prerann' penned and composed by her son Leslie Rego. Speaking about the CD, Fr Antony Serrao said "The hymns in the CD are truly melodious and inspirational. I had known Leslie as an ace compere and an anchor. After listening to his music, I consider him as a great composer also. I call upon all to begin your day by listening to these hymns." Fr Vincent Victor Menezes, Melvyn Rodrigues, Alwyn Noronha, Joswin Pinto and Claud D'Souza were present during the release of CD.
Fr Antony Serrao also honoured the two talents of Bendore parish Konkan Kalashri Claud D’Souza and music director Joswin Pinto and achievers Corrine Rasquinha of White Doves and the choir teacher of Bendore Charles D'souza for their remarkable service.
President of host organization Karavali Konkans Leslie Rego thanked all for their support and requested to support the organization in the future also.
In reply to the honour Claud D’Souza thanked all the musicians, singers, fans and sponsors for supporting him. He also thanked Konkan Kogull late Wilfy Rebimbus for mentoring him.
Popular singers Ivan Sequeira, Anita D'Souza, Jothsna, Archie Fernandes, Priyanka, Asha Menezes and Ashwin D’Costa joined Claud in rendering both new and old compositions.
Comedy skits were enacted by veteran comedian Dolla along with Leslie Rego, Alwyn Veigas, Felix Lasrado, Joseph Pinto and Rita Fernandes. Thunder Guys performed the dances. Famed music duo of Pappan and Joswin led and directed the music. Well-known compere Leslie Rego hosted the show in his inimitable style.
The formal function was compered by Alwyn D'souza. The vice president of the pastoral council Vincent Goveas presented the annual report of the parish. Secretary of the pastoral council Ronald Valder welcomed the gathering while Sujith Noronha thanked all. Assistant parish priests of the church Fr Jason Lobo and Fr Ashwin Cardoza with Principal of Padua College Fr Alwyn Serrao, main sponsor of the nite Errol Samuel of RS Realty Promoters were present.
