Mangaluru, Jan 18: Police personnel belonging to the city crime branch (CCB) here have succeeded in apprehending Muhammed Shariff alias Miltary Shariff (36), who has been accused of his involvement with various cases of cattle theft. The police said that Shariff had also been evading court hearings.
Shariff, who is a resident of Casba Bengre here, has shifted residence, and presently staying at Kudkorigudde in Kankanady within the city limits.
CCB police said that Shariff is involved with cases of thefts of cows from various spots in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Chikkamagaluru districts. He had succeeded in getting bail in certain cases, but had been staying away from personally appearance in court hearings. He was taken into custody by the police from hear the railway station at Mangalore Junction.
In addition to cattle theft cases registered in Bunder and rural stations in the city, Shariff also faces cases of cattle theft and checque bounce in Suratkal, Karkala city, Beltangady and Bantwal town stations. Shariff has also been named as an accused in a case in which a vehicle loaded with six cows stolen from within the jurisdiction of Belehonnur station were being taken had fallen into a ditch after which occupants of the vehicle had run away from the spot, duly abandoning the vehicle.
