Mangaluru, Jan 24: In a tragic incident, a two-year-old child died after falling into a well at Battagudde, Bejai here on Sunday January 24 evening.

The deceased has been identified as Ashwini, daughter of Nagaraj and Laxmi from Vijaypura.

The 25-ft deep well into which Ashwini fell is adjacent to a tree. It is learnt Ashwini and another child were playing near the well, and out of curiosity, Ashwini climbed on to the platform surrounding the tree and peeped into the well. She lost balance and fell in.

The fire service rushed to the spot and managed to retrieve the body.

Ashwini's parents, hailing from Vijaypura, are employed as coolie workers in the city.

A case has been registered in Urwa police station.

yes a tragic event. For no mistake of it's a kid lost it's life. but please don't start blaming the govt and all. It's ones responsibility to take care of the precautionary measures. if the well was covered properly it wouldn't have happened. Also if the free which was above the well was cut foreseeing such mishaps this incident wouldn't have occurred. so 50 % yes infrastructure we are in and 50 % it's we are responsible for any such disasters.

Parents are outsiders and poor coolie workers. What happened is indeed very tragic. All landowners should ensure that wells are properly covered.
