Mangaluru, Jan 28: Kartik Das (40) hailing from the city, who has been serving the Indian Navy, had a moment of pride on Republic Day, when Prime Minister (PM), Narendra Modi inspected the guard honour extended by a team of navy officers led by him at Amar Jawan Jyoti near India Gate, New Delhi when Modi offered tributes to the martyrs.
Just before participating in the republic parade, PM, Narendra Modi, defence minister, Manohar Parrikar, and heads of the three services of Indian Armed Forces had paid respects to martyrs at 'Amar Jawan Jyoti'. As per tradition, chiefs of army, navy, and air force take part in this programme. Commanders of all the three wings command their contingents on this occasion. Kartik commanded the navy contingent.
Kartik was born to Gangadhara Das Ameen and Lakshmi G Suvarna at Shakti Sagar Doomappa Compound at Pandeshwar here, completed his primary and high school education in Milagres educational institutions and got degree through St Aloysius College. He completed his M Tech postgraduate course in submarine ship building from New Delhi before joining Indian Navy.
Kartik, who has worked at Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Port Blair and Kochi, was promoted as commander of navy four months back. He had married Shraddha, daughter of R Sridhar Poojary and Tilottame couple from Bappalige in Puttur, and the couple has a daughter.
Das got the opportunity to represent the navy at the Republic Day Parade for the first time this year.
