Sun shines bright in Jammu, Srinagar; dry weather to prevail


Jammu/Srinagar, Feb 3 (IANS): Bright sunshine greeted the people in Jammu and Srinagar on Wednesday as the weather office forecast dry weather across Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours to THursday morning.

"A bright morning sunshine will further help raise the maximum day temperature in Jammu and Srinagar while night temperature is likely to drop further due to clear night sky in Jammu and Kashmir in the next 24 hours," a meteorological department official told IANS.

The official said the minimum temperature again dropped below freezing point at minus 2.3 degrees Celsius in Srinagar on Wednesday after remaining above zero for four days.

The minimum was minus six degrees in Gulmarg and minus five degrees in Pahalgam on Wednesday. South Kashmir's Qazigund town recorded a minimum of minus 1.8 degrees while Awantipora recorded minus 3.5 degrees.

Leh town in Ladakh region shivered at minus 13.3 degrees while Kargil town recorded minus 13.6 degrees during the night.

Jammu city recorded a mimimum of 7.0 degrees, Bhaderwah minus 0.4 degree, Bannihal 0.2 degree and Katra 6.5 degrees as the lowest night temperature.

"The weather is stable at the moment and we are not expecting any major changes during the next 24 hours," the met official said.
