Mangaluru, Feb 3: The city crime branch (CCB) police led by inspector Valentine D'Souza on Wednesday February 3 arrested five persons who were plotting to a kill a person and seized weapons and an Omni car.
The arrested persons, identified as Zia alias A K Riyaz (30), a resident of Adyar, Kannur residents Ajmal alias Ajju (22), Mushtaque Ahmad (21) and Mohammed Fazal (21) and Basit (21), a resident of Pandeshwar, were arrested at Adyar.
The police recovered three machetes, two daggers, seven mobile phones and Maruti Omni from the accused.
All the accused have criminal backgrounds. Riyaz is accused in the murder of Ejaz that took place in 2014 at Kannur under Mangaluru rural police station and is also accused in a total of 12 cases including attempts-to-murder. Ajmal who was released on bail just a month ago faces theft and robbery cases and is also an accused in the Ejaz murder case. Mushtaque and Fazal are also accused in the murder of Ejaz. Basit faces an attempt-to-murder case under Mangaluru north police station.
In 2011, Ejaz and others had allegedly murdered a person named Abdul Rahiman alias Sanna Putta at Kannur. In retaliation, Riyaz, Ajmal, Mushtaque, Fazal and others had allegedly killed Ejaz in 2014. It is suspected that the accused were planning another murder at the time of their arrest on February 3.
The arrest operation was conducted under the direction of police commissioner Chandra Sekhar, and guided by DCPs K M Shantaraju and Dr Sanjeev M Patil. CCB inspector. Valentine D'Souza led the operation along with PSI Shyamsunder.
