Obama slams anti-Muslim rhetoric during first visit to U S mosque

Washington, Feb 4 (IANS) : U.S. President Barack on Wednesday slammed anti-Muslim rhetoric and appealed for tolerance for millions of Muslims in the country during his first visit to a U.S. mosque as president.

"We have heard inexcusable political rhetoric against Muslim-Americans that has no place anywhere in our country," Xinhua quoted Obama's address at the Islamic Society of Baltimore, Maryland on Wednesday.

"You have seen too often people conflating the horrific acts of terrorism with the beliefs of an entire faith," he said, adding that the anti-Muslim rhetoric started since 9/11 attacks but more recently since the attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, California.

"We have seen children bullied, we have seen mosques vandalized," said Obama. "That's not who we are."

Though Obama did not specifically name anyone who, in his words, resorted to "inexcusable" anti-Muslim rhetoric in the political sphere, White House spokesman Josh Earnest on Tuesday took a clear jab at some Republicans who he said with "an alarming willingness" tried to "marginalise law-abiding, patriotic Muslim Americans."

"It is just offensive to a lot of Americans who recognise that those kinds of cynical political tactics run directly contrary to the values ... in this country," Earnest said at Tuesday's briefing.

The issue of race has been debated, but religion never had been an issue in the US. Three centuries ago religion had been one of the causes that led thousands of Europeans to settle in the American continent which they then considered as a land of freedom and opportunities. And today again US politicians are necessitated to raise the issue of religion for what has been going around in the world. Finally the US is also not immune from the virus of fanaticism, hope the land of opportunities will not transform from secular to sickular.

I only wish let this statement won't become a big FEKU.

It reminds me of President OBAMA's advise to our honorable PM to practice secular values as enumerated in the constitution of Hindustan in its true spirit both in talks & actions.

Then why hindustan's elite & upper class intellectuals hell bent on to run find job in US.
What an irony ..., isn't it...?

Even our honorable PM visited twice after becoming PM despite his visa was previously rejected.

Let us not engage in ullubanaawing or fooling Hindustani citizens by showing arithmetic than substantive reasoning.

Retiring President or aspirant President - my request with Diaji readers not to hold responsible minority as a whole for the misdeeds of few within the community. Let our comments be sensible. Main stream Muslims do not own all these trouble makers instead our experience with the peace-loving minorities reaffirms faith in Muslims.

Real concern by a President who is at the end of his tenure. He does not have anything to appease any one because he cannot stand for president election for 3rd time. His speech is nothing but in same tune with what he said about on his India visit by saying - "Michelle and I returned from India an incredible, beautiful country, full of magnificent diversity but a place where, in past years, religious faiths of all types have, on occasion, been targeted by other peoples of faith, simply due to their heritage and their beliefs acts of intolerance that would have shocked Gandhiji, the person who helped to liberate that nation"

Visiting the mosque after a long time may be a political strategy of Obama in view of presidential election to gain the Muslim support.

This is a indication that religious virus has spread beyond the control of humanity.
When religion is preferred over value system, this what happens.
God doesn't give weightage to religion over values, on whom all this is centered, making all those religious begots fools.
