Mumbai, Sep 12: He may still have a long way to go to prove his prowess in the industry. However, that doesn’t deter Kunal Khemu in attempting the most unconventional roles on the block, right from ‘Kalyug’ to the much acclaimed ‘Traffic Signal’.

While he may have tickled quite a few funny bones as a child actor in ‘Raja Hindustani’, he plans to experiment yet again with comedy in his upcoming flick ‘Dhol’.

“It’s the story of four guys who try different schemes to marry a rich girl,” says Kunal. “However, there’s also an underlying suspense that turns things different,” he adds.

Having battled the pressures of having an unconventional image, Kunal agrees it’s not been an easy ride. “I have always had to deal with the perceptions that people have about me.

Comments like ‘you can’t be a hero’ and ‘you don’t have the right image’ were always there. But I am getting used to them. However, when you are appreciated, it definitely encourages you,” he says.

So, is he nervous trying his hands at comedy with experts on the job like Sharman Joshi and Rajpal Yadav in ‘Dhol’? “I agree it’s a tough job but its fun as well.

It takes guts to be a comedian. What’s comedy for one person may seem irritating to the other. That’s the thin line that you need to keep a check on,” he says.

However, doesn’t he feel an urge to break into the top notch and become an overnight success? “I am happy that my growth has been gradual and not as a phenomenon. It’s great if something like that happens but it’s also scary to a certain extent. I am happy doing the kind of roles that I am doing,” he says.

Question him on his personal life and he shrugs off any possibility of being in a relationship, insisting its work all the way for him. “I have a lot of friends who I spend my time with.

However being committed to someone needs time. Now, it’s important for me to get a foothold   in this industry. My erratic work schedules don’t allow a relationship,” he ends.
