Kasargod, Feb 4: The Kasargod additional sessions court on Thursday February 4 convicted a person for killing a woman by slitting her throat in 2006.

B M Umar Byari (33), a resident of Ujire, Beltangady has been found guilty of murdering Fatimath Zuhara (17), a resident of Ujaru Uluvaru near Kumble on December 28, 2006.
The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on February 6.
He has been found guilty of murder, attempt to rape, illegal entry into house and other charges.
Umar was working as a labourer in the garden attached to Uluvaru mosque. When Zuhara was fast asleep at her house, he had entered her home at midnight by climbing an adjacent tree, reaching the roof of her house, and gaining entry by removing tiles. He grew angry as Zuhara refused to reciprocate his advances. He had then slit Zuhara's throat and fled.
During investigation, the police found that Umar had bought the knife used for murder from a shop at Kumble. He was arrested the very next day of Zuhara's murder and remanded in judicial custody.
He succeeded in getting bail, but had gone underground after that. He was arrested from Nasik in Maharashtra on August 28, 2014. It is said that he was working as contractor in Nasik.
There were no witnesses in the case and judgement was pronounced based on circumstancial evidence.
