Gowda asks state govt to keep watch on foreign students

Bengaluru, Feb 5 (PTI) : Union Law Minister Sadananda Gowda today asked the Karnataka government to form a special squad to keep a watch on foreign students, in the wake of an alleged assault and stripping of a Tanzanian woman here.

Attacking the Congress-led state government for not acting on locals' complaint regarding the "wrong" behaviour of certain foreign students, Gowda sought Central government's intervention to find the truth about the assault on Sunday night.

He also said that innocent people should not be arrested as was being alleged by the locals.

"If state government cannot control law and order situation then it will lead much bigger problem in the days to come. I urge upon the government to constitute a special squad to monitor foreign students," Gowda said.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the family of a woman who was mowed down by a car driven by a Sudanese here, which led to the Tanzanian student being attacked, he said, "I have come to know that more than thousands of students are staying here and functioning even after their Visa having expired."

Holding the state government responsible for the death of the woman, Gowda said government and authorities should have kept a watch on the earlier developments and taken adequate law and order measures.

He also demanded a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the family of the victim, pointing out that two children have lost their mother.

A Tanzanian woman student was allegedly beaten up and stripped by a mob in a case of "mistaken identity" after the 35-year old woman was mowed down by a car on Sunday night.

The incident has taken a serious diplomatic turn.
A team including the Tanzanian High Commissioner, who is also the Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps, is visiting Bengaluru today.

The team also includes Joint Secretary (States), Director Eastern and Southern Africa in Ministry of External Affairs and the Regional Director of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

The Tanzanian woman was reportedly dragged out of the car in which she was seated along with her three friends when she reached the accident spot mistaking them to have caused the fatal accident though a Sudanese was involved in it.

City police have so far arrested nine persons in connection with this case.

Sadananda Gowda was CM of Karnataka and he knows very well the Drug Mafia and Cyber Crime run by Nigerian and other African people coming to India in under the Visa of Students. But Bengaluru police are helpless as they have no jurisdiction to punish such foreign nationals engaged in criminal activities. Kammanhalli Area where Africans run drug mafia falls under the constituency represented by Sadananda Gowda. So he is the right person to know the ground reality.
When locals beat just one African student it is Racism, but when Nigerian gang beats our Kannadiga Bus conductors on the roads of Bengaluru it is not racism, Why?

Though they are from poor countries, these Africans are the most misbehaved and undisciplined students, involved in all types of notorious activities. They live as if they are in their own country, with least respect for local laws. Fights, inebriation and street brawls are a daily occurrence among them. The media seems to have unnecessarily highlighted the issue, conveniently forgetting the poor accident victim who lost her life. It's high time the govt. need to keep them under surveillance.

Gowda is Correct. Police doesn't have authority to question Foreign students on their wrong doing. So these students are under no authority. Hence they have freedom to anything as no one is there to question them. The rate on illegal activities made local to frustrate. And actions were taken on innocent ones. It is 100% wrong to manhandle any foreign students and females. But we definitely need a system to control foreign students wrong doing which is missing today.

Never use this sentence "staying after expiry of Visa are serious matter." In foreign countries specially, Gulf, USA, Europe, Australia etc. there are thousands & thousands or may be in lakhs of our fellow Indians are staying, forget about expiry if visa, "EXPIRY OF EVERYTHING" yet they don't want to go back to their native country!

Foreign Students and Foreigners issue should be handled with highest priority with out political interference because you find more Indians are foreign students and foreign workers in Africa, Americas, Europe, middle east, South east & Australia and all over the world then any other nationals. Indian people/Government should be careful about foreigners. We do not want poor, illegal Indians to be deported back to India.

now we are getting to know something after reading your following statement "You said that innocent people should not be arrested" how do you can say they are innocent?
well!! now we know The surprise move of Supreme Court's observation last year that investigators so far have no evidence to charge the 11 accused, including Pragya Singh Thakur and former Lt Col Shrikant Purohit, under the stringent law. Course they will act whatever you dictate them so it is not a surprise move.

State congress govt. is doing a commendable job. They have already made a number of arrests and probing further action. In spite of this congress ruled Karnataka govt. has ventured into investment opportunities and a number of foreign investors have gabbed thier shares in this opportunities becuase they have confidance in congress and are convinced that business friendly environment is maintained by congress. Unlike when BJP was ruling no investors were risking to invest in Bangalore. Nowhere in India now or then investors are investing in BJP ruled states. Development and BJP are north and south poles.

The credibility of honorable minister's lecture to state govt., must be measured relatively, as it came after the arrest of persons who belong to a particular political party/ideology to which he also belong & represent.

This is nothing but "holier than thou" attitude.
