Udupi, Feb 6: Two persons who had suffered injuries in separate accidents on NH 66 between Udyavar and Pangala passed away on Saturday February 6.
The deceased have been identified as Santosh Poojary (40), a resident of Enagudde, Katapady, who was working for Mescom, and Shahida (34), wife of Razak, a resident of Bada village, Uchila.
Santosh was riding from Udyavar to Katapady when container truck moving in the same direction hit Santosh's bike. The bike fell under the truck and its wheels ran over Santosh.
A seriously injured Santosh was rushed to Manipal hospital, where he passed away later.
Santosh, who was working as a clerk at Mescom, was sole breadwinner of his family. He leaves behind his mother, wife and a daughter who is studying in third standard. He had been working as a clerk on a temporary appointment from the past 19 years. He was a member of Katapady JCI. The locals said that even though he was not a permanent employee, Mescom should come forward to help the bereaved family on humanitarian grounds.
The locals also opined that the accident took place because a road was closed for traffic at Udyavar without any warning and traffic was diverted to another road, which led to confusion.
In another incident, a woman who sustained serious injuries in an accident that took place near Kattikere in Pangala more than two weeks ago, passed away on Saturday.
Shahida was seriously injured after a scooty hit a slab beside the road near Kattikere. After battling for life for over two weeks, Shahida passed away in a hospital.
The accident took place on January 17 when Shahida along with her father Hasan and son Shahad (2) was on her way to attend a wedding in Udyavar. A dog came in the way of Hasan's scooty, and in a bid to avoid hitting the animal, he veered off to the side of the road and hit against a slab on the edge of the road. Shahida was rushed to hospital.
Shahida leaves behind her parents, husband and three young children.
